2025 in Review

Indexing
Book & Other Indexing
I recently published a Substack and Blog post that provided an annotated listing of my 2025 indexing projects, including book projects, as well as database indexing for the Digital National Security Archive (DNSA), and legislative indexing for the Florida Legislature.
In December, the National Security Archive celebrated its 40th anniversary, which I had hoped to be able to attend but at the last minute I was unable to go.
I also indexed my own Substack!
The Index to “VFJ Indexing” Substack Posts is updated every time I publish a new Substack post.
American Society for Indexing (ASI)
ASI 2025 Conference
Another interesting conference for the books! I wrote a recap of the conference session, “An Introduction to the Book Design Process,” by Anna Aridome.
My recap was published in the Summer 2025 issue (Vol.33, no.2) of ASI’s quarterly journal, Key Words.
The History-Archaeology Special Interest Group (HA SIG)
Social meetings via Zoom continued as usual in 2025, on the last Friday of every other month, where attendees regularly joined from across the U.S., Canada, and Germany.
At these social Zoom meetings, we discuss any and every indexing topic that we want to comment on or have questions about. Past indexing practices (such as the use of actual index cards and FedEx for correspondence), upcoming conferences or webinars, recent projects or business-related topics, software experiences and calamities, and the question of how to index personal names have been some topics we chatted about in recent meetings.
Abstracting
My contract to write and edit abstracts for the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs’ Virtual Library was not renewed, and ended in June 2025 along with the termination of the project.
Non-Abstract Publications
Substack posts are more frequent than blog posts and include more newsletter-type information such as announcements of recently completed indexing projects.
Any Blog posts get automatically double-posted to Substack.
Thank You
Thus ends my report on the highlights of 2025 at VFJ Indexing & Word Services, LLC.
Cheers to a happy, healthy, and project-filled 2026.
